Dr Anthony Fok graduated from Nanyang Technological University (NTU) with an Honours degree in Accountancy as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Economics. He went on to receive his Post-Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) from the National Institute of Education (NIE), the premier teacher-training institute in Singapore. Driven by his passion for teaching and curriculum development, he later earned a Master’s degree in Education, where he deepened his understanding of pedagogy and learner development. To further contribute to the field of Economics education, Dr Fok completed his Doctor in Education, specialising in Economics learning environments. His doctoral research focused on enhancing the teaching and learning of Economics, and he continues to apply evidence-based practices in his classroom to help students achieve peak academic performance. With his strong academic foundation, professional teaching training, and research expertise, Dr Fok is widely recognised as a leading authority in Economics education in Singapore.
“I have always wanted to be a teacher, and after many years in this profession, I am grateful that I never gave up, even when it was challenging or tiring. Every time I see a student improve, I am reminded of why I chose to be an educator—it brings me immense joy and satisfaction. While Singapore’s schools and teachers are highly competent, it can be difficult for them to meet the needs of every student. Some struggle to grasp concepts in fast-paced lessons, while others seek enrichment and more challenging questions. That is where tuition plays a vital role, helping students maximise their learning and achieve their full potential. My students see me not just as a tutor, but as a caring and enthusiastic mentor—more like a friend than a strict teacher. I use humour, personal anecdotes, and a variety of teaching strategies to keep lessons engaging and relatable. Recognising that every student is unique, I tailor my approach to suit individual needs, backgrounds, and learning styles, ensuring that each student receives the guidance and support they require to excel in Economics”
